Transplant Ministries wants to be there to encourage quality christian media. As it says in Malachi 1, God demands our best sacrifices, however in order to determine what the Best is, we first need to see what the Worst is.

Captain's Club - BBNradio.org

The Captain's Club is a program for children of all ages, produced by the Bible Broadcasting Network, and hosted by Captain Chesterpeake and Sparkle. The program contains an exciting episode from the adventures of "The Sugar Creek Gang," narrated by Bill Collins. There are riddles in the middle and then comes Uncle Charlie with "Storytime," featuring dramatized stories that teach how to make moral decisions based on the Word of God.

- BBN

It's also very poorly produced. I mean there comes a time when we have to look at media that has The Creator of Creativity's name on it and say..."Wait a Minute. What in the world are you thinking, why are you giving God a limped creature, like The Captains Club"

The truth is that "The Captains Club" is one of the worst Radio Drama's I have ever heard in my life. It airs on the BBN network which is a low budget Hymn and Preacher Radio Station, the only reason I found it was because for the first two seconds I thought it was an episode of Adventures in Odyssey then I listened to the third second. I wanted to post a link so you could hear the terrible acting, hissing microphones and church organ music as as Time dissolve but I could not find any more information on the program or downloads. It really would amuse you. The best part of the whole show and I say that with Sarcasm, is when the Captain starts screaming a bible verse telling the kids to remember it...A FRIEND LOVES AT ALL TIMES A FRIEND LIVES AT ALL TIMES SAY IT AGAIN A FRIEND LOVES AT ALLLLLLLLLL TIMES.

The truth is that we have to start looking at all forms of Christian Media and determine what makes Good Media, and what makes Bad. It's not a pretty job, I remember when American Idol first came out people despised Simon Cowell now as the Seventh Season of the show is in production at this very moment, over 90 percent of the votes are in agreement with Simon. We have grown to respect him for his Honesty and we greatly respect his opinion.

Like it says in Proverbs 27:6 "Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." we have to tell the truth, even if it hurts.

This sort of discussion usually leads to the whole "It's all about the heart" and to an extent that is true. However, a heart that is focused on giving their best to God should greatly appreciate criticism with the mindset of "What? I can do better? Yes..Yes. Thank you."

So BBN please do not take these words as harsh Jabs but honest critiques so we as a Christian Body can reach more people and in return give God even more glory.

First, drop the Organ Hymn Music. It doesn't fit the mood, and it is highly out of place. It throws everything off.

Second, Add background noise to the conversations to cover up the hum of the microphones and eliminate dead air. Research Ambiance.

Third. Eliminate the Scripts from the eyes of the Actors. This is a tip I learned from "The Skit Guy's", read the script a few times and then get rid of it and improvise it as you remember it. This way you voice sounds as if it is actually speaking and not reading out loud.

Forth. Stop Yelling the bible verses at the Kids. I am all for Hell fire and Brimstone, but this is Radio...when did Bob or Larry ever Yell at kids when QWERTY showed them a bible verse. Dora the Explorer doesn't even encourage participation that way.

I used to live in Tidewater and heard BBN there. I agree w/your assessment of the Captain Chesterpeake gang. It's pretty 50s in it's quality and very childish, definately not teen oriented. I always thought the woman on the broadcast should blow her nose too...sometimes I blurted out, "Get a kleenex woman".
I like your site.

uhh? How am I not a True Christian, because I made a critical observation on a Radio Program?

Please clarify your discernments.

I believe there is a fine line between when it comes to critiquing a certain ministry. In all of Christendom there are many different preferences and view points on how something should be done and sadly a lot of the focus is put on what man can do instead of God. I am with you in that certain aspects of the show drive me crazy, however I praise the Lord for this ministry and those involved who strive to glorify the Lord with their ministry.

I agree with Tony.... America has fallen asleep and she is walking full force into Satan's hands. The bible says in 2 Cor 6:17 that we are to be SEPARATE from the world - not worry about fitting in and sounding, acting, or being just like them.

America's "christians" today look and act just like the lost sinners - and many are not even saved. They wear clothes like the world, and their music is just like the worlds. They are staddling the fence.

DO you know why this happened? Because they have "Dropped the 'organ music'" and gotten themselves music just like the world, they are focused on pleasing themselves (Like Marcus is worried about the mics buzzing) instead of being completly focused on pleasing God.

Time is running short for us christians to do service for the LORD, and I am afraid that when we face the LORD one day, many of us will be a shame and an embaresment to Him because we were not separated from the world and made submissive the Word of the LORD...

I have to agree with the last poster. Besides, I actually LOVE the organ music. The music they play is in general absolutely beautiful! Don't criticize something just because YOU don't like it. There are people out there who do. BBN is a breath of fresh air in this world of so called modern music. I praise God for the network! As far as captain's club is concerned, if people don't like it they don't have to listen. Apparently someone likes it as it's been on the air all these years.

Christ chose to heal the blind man's eyes with spit and dirt -- how unprofessional! It's about imagination, not technical excellence.

"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
"And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to naught things that are:
"That no flesh should glory in his presence."

I happen to like the Captain's Club and encourage my children to listen. We do not conform to the world...we enjoy the simple and true format. Keep your Dora and Sponge Bob...we will continue to listen to this ministry just like it is. Thank you and God Bless Us All! <><

I like the Captain's Club. When I was just coming to learn the Lord, I tried all the "programs of today" and found them irritating and annoying. I started listening to the Captain's Club and it's simple, honest way of doing things helped me to understand better and made me want to learn more about the Word. so it may be old fashioned, it may not be produced as well as most "Hollyweird" productions, but it reached this old dog and taught her new tricks. I love this show, it also helps get me through rush hour traffic each and every day. I actually miss it when they are not on the air for what ever reason!! So back off and let them continue to teach in the old fashioned way, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. New and improved isn't always what it is cracked up to be!!!

The Captains Club focuses on actually teaching the Bible and Christian truths....Anonymous is right...most so called Christians want to look and sound just like the world.

Do you actually think that better skits and actors will bring people to Jesus?

I listened to this with my younger siblings when I was a teenager. Oh my how I loved it too! We all looked forward to 4pm at home or in the car and were sad to miss it. Sure, it has some cheezy parts, as children's programs do, but I loved it mainly for the Sugar Creek Gang stories which I am ordering now for my children! I was a teenager loving this radio program, and I knew it was geared for much younger children. It is probably perfect for 5-10 year olds, but older children will still enjoy it even if secretly. ;)

I loved this series when I was young, and I still do as an adult. It brings back happy memories. I also love the Little House on the Prairie series. Things like Dora make me want to run screaming with all the mistakes (calling a chicken "he") and obnoxious noise.
