Bill Maher -- Religulous...This is Ridiculous!

I don't know if any of you have heard of Bill Maher, he is a late night vulgar comic (Who doesn't write his own material and was kicked off of ABC) and makes a living from being most offensive. That's his brand of comedy really. Who can I insult that others will not? To him abortion is funny and religion is well more funny. Bill Maher is an Atheist and a not very funny one at that.

So in what has to be a direct response to Ben Stein's "Expelled" Bill Maher is creating a movie called Religulous, or as I like to call "The How Much Blasphemy Can We Place in One Movie, Movie".

If you can stomach threw the blasphemy in the trailer, you can see he interviews stereotypes and casts serious oversimplifications to proclaim the Gospel of Atheism. Even comparing our belief in a Divine Creator to that of Santa Clause because "Millions believe doesn't make it true."

So here is a challenge to Bill Maher, I dare you to interview a true apologist, Ravi Zacharias comes to mind. Be bold in your convictions. Stand strong in your faith. Anyone can cast people to interview to get a desired result (I used to work at a propaganda TV station, I know how it is done) but it takes true gut's to challenge it.

And besides You VS Ravi might actually be funny...for once.

There will be one overwhelming difference between Expelled and Religulous. Ben Stein interviewed and confronted the leading people from the atheist and new-Darwinian groups: Richard Dawkins, P. Z. Myers, Eugenie Scott, etc. Will Bill Maher be interviewing Lee Strobel, Josh McDowell or R. C. Sproul? You bet he won't. Will the real coward please step forward?

Like I said.

It's a mockumentary on nothing more then Bill Maher's intelligence level.

"Confessing to be wise, they become fools"

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?

Seriously? It's a comedy you guys. Lightnen up. If you really want to engage in intelligent discourse on religion then by all means do it. You are behaving like the uninformed & dillusional whack jobs he is making you out to be. That's why it's so funny.

Wow Kyle,

I have never heard it put like that before.

Thanks for your amazing insight and totally changing my opinion on everything.

You are a genius.

End of Sarcasm.

Obviously Mr. Pittman is not interested in intelligent discourse, but only in lashing out with sarcastic insults. This is the common, child-like behavior one would expect from a person with serious control issues when confronting a situation that they have no control over, or any say in the matter whatsoever. Example: unsuccessfully attempting to convince others that satirical books or films about religious beliefs are somehow injurious. My 2 1/2 year-old son lashes out in the same manner when confronting a similar situation--this morning he threw a fit because he was unable to persuade me that he needed a band-aid where there was no cut or scratch at all. Hmm.

If there are any here who would truly appreciate intelligent discourse on the matter of religion and its role in human society and culture then I would welcome the exchange.

Kyle.

The reason Bill Maher is not taken seriously is because he never has any smart people on his show. He refuses to have anyone that would even remotly appear to have intelligent discourse engage him in dialogue.

If Bill Maher wants it to be taken as a Joke...Then why should I take anything he says seriously?

Even Ben Stein has Dawkins on his Movie.

No, Bill Maher would rather have red state farmers in overalls appear as the spokesmen for Christianity.

I agree with what you say about not taking Bill Maher seriously. I don't think you are supposed to. That said, I don't think Richard Dawkins, Ernst Mayr, E.O. Wilson, or most other evolutionary thinkers would make for good comedy. One could accuse Bill O'Reilly of the same sort of tactics. Sometimes he does have a few real thinkers on his show, but his "interviews" are usually closed-minded intimidation at best, and not really what I would call humorous. On a personal note: I am a music enthusiast and hold it as sacred and as spiritually uplifting as many others do their religious beliefs. However, when compared to theology, I don't see it as a major source of division among us with a history of inciting violence, but quite the opposite. If the religions of the world could just follow this simple example it's possible that we could come together and stop all this silly arguing about who's right or wrong. It doesn't really matter if you don't care for the musical aesthetics that I do. We may have strong opinions on our favorite types of music, or even what we consider to be music, but we certainly would not have bitter arguments about it or kill each other over it. Apply the same principle to politics: would you vote for someone because their favorite songs are the same as yours or vehemently oppose those who enjoy music that you don’t really understand? And wouldn’t it be sheer lunacy for anyone, especially our leaders, to try to impose their personal music preferences on others?

I just saw this movie and it was brilliant. I grew up a Baptist and endured countless problems in the church resulting in myself being less than religious. I call myself spiritual and I tell everyone I meet, “God is not religious.” I would like to point out there is a big difference between being religious and being spiritual. Being spiritual means I have a one-on-one relationship with God, but denounce organized religion as it is today, being as it is full of corruption, hate, greed, and negativity. I am a Christian. I believe in God very strongly and speak to Him every day. I believe Jesus died for our sins. HOWEVER, the church’s use of human nature’s fear of the unknown and the constantly rewritten and edited Bible as a business opportunity is blasphemy in itself and, in my opinion, should be stopped. Kudos to Bill Maher for having the cahones to stand up and say, “What if you are wrong? Which, you probably are.” The only way the church can save it’s image as a credible source of information is to expose the lies made by the early church, make public ALL the scrolls no matter how embarrassing the truth is, denounce the evangelicals who make an absolute mockery of religion, and come out and tell people what they actually DO know, not what is best for business or their own image. Most people know the church has lied, withheld information, and even killed in the name of their secrets. Ironically, by trying to save their own asses from the constant lies and manipulation, they have subjected themselves to a slow and painful economic death as people become smarter and more in touch with the real God, not the hateful, vengeful, jealous God the church preaches about. God is wonderful, I just wish everyone else thought so, too. I, along with many other intelligent people, are awaiting the church’s “coming clean” event, which will probably never come, but I have to try in the name of our Lord. It’s only right. Meanwhile, I pray in my home privately and leave those who lack the faith to do this on their own to go to church.
